We were fortunate to be able to volunteer with the Community Lunch on Capitol Hill in Seattle, WA and served up some hot meals to some hungry people.

Here we are ready to serve some hot meals to some hungry people. What a great experience!

On Friday July 1, 2011 we had the special honor of working with Community Lunch on Capitol Hill in Seattle, Washington.  Who is Community Lunch? Well, Community Lunch on Capitol Hill provides hot, nutritious and high-quality meals—on a shoestring budget—to hundreds of homeless and low-income people of Seattle. They welcome them as their friends and guests in an atmosphere of hospitality, comfort and support. By sharing lunch twice a week, & a dinner one day a week, they help create community together.

We met & learned from Don Jensen, the Director of the program, how big of an impact this program has on the community.  In a time of dwindling budgets and skyrocketing unemployment rates, the need for free and healthy meals is undeniably urgent. They are currently seeing an average of 250 to 300 people at each meal—a significant increase from previous years.

While in Portland, OR we had the privilege to volunteer some time with Habitat for Humanity & it was a blast. When we arrived…late…because our handy dandy navigation took us to the wrong place, we met with Kathi. She was a very friendly & quirky lady, I must admit she was funny! We quickly signed in & waived our rights to sue if Bun “accidentally” beat me with a hammer! Those of us that know Bun, know it would be “accidental”. Anyway, we then collected our tool pouches, safety goggles & safety helmet! We were ready to build a house! I turned to take a good look at what we were helping build & realized we were going upstairs. That’s about when my 98 year old body started aching! Yep, right then I knew I was in trouble!

Our Journey is on…it ain’t been easy!

Wut up folks… it’s Bobby from Operation b2 and I have to start by saying it ain’t easy being cheezy! This journey is a strain on the mental stability and for those of you that know me I don’t have a whole lot of mental to be losing! The trip started on June 19th…Father’s Day…from Merced, CA and took us to Eureka, CA where we planned to stop for the night! Key word here…”planned”…we pulled into a hotel and I hopped out with enthusiasm and excitement! Our journey was starting and sleep was needed. So, with my head held high, I marched into the lobby to get us a room. My excitement soon became confusion… my simple mind believed we could get a room for around $50 bucks a night. I was sadly mistaken! They wanted $149.00 a night…$149.00?…what the F@%$…needless to say, I’m smart (s.m.r.t), I’ll just drive down the road a few blocks and get a room at a normal hotel. If they didn’t want my money, the next hotel would… right? Wrong! So, down the freeway we continued with the same results!
